Reflecting
Reflection on Teaching
Reflecting on your teaching includes the following:
- Personal reflection: taking time to personally reflect on how your teaching went.
- Debrief: meeting with your mentor to discuss what went well and what you would like to do the next time.
- Report: meeting with (Stacey or Toni) from the Instruction Department to share what you learned, what was hard, what you enjoyed, where you could use more support, and so forth.
Personal Reflection
It is extremely beneficial to reflect on how each class goes, ideally immediately after the class, but at least within the next day or two. Reflection can help you record what you did leading up to and in the class, and also help you evaluate what things went well and what you wish you did differently. This will help you remember what you want to do again the next time and what you might want to change.
You can reflect in any way that is helpful to you. Here is a suggested outline to get you thinking.FIRST CLASS

Reflection/Debrief with your Mentor
After you team teach with your mentor, take some time to review with them how things went. Ask for their feedback on what went well and what can be changed. If you invite them to support you when you teach for the first time on your own, ask for their feedback then, as well. This reflection with your mentor will help you recognize your strengths and identify areas that need some tweaking.Report back to the Instruction Department
At the end of the semester, Stacey will visit with you and review how the semester went. She will ask for your feedback on how the mentoring process supported you and where you could have used more support.
